LG Electronics will be voluntarily recalling a water purifier model found to malfunction when dispensing warm water, the company said on Tuesday. The model is the WU900AS built-in dual water purifier, otherwise known as the LG PuriCare Dual Water Purifier, manufactured from Oct. 1 last year to Feb. 28. They were only sold domestically. They are installed directly at sinks in kitchens. The faucet is placed above the sink and the purifier under the sink cabinet. According to the manufacturer, 33 models out of 10,300 were found to dispense unclean warm water or no water at all, due to the corrosion of the warm water valve of the purifier. The company has notified its customers and recommended they stop using the products for the time being. The models will either be partly or completely replaced “soon,” according to LG Electronics. Customers will be given money to buy clean water before the models are replaced. Customers renting the model can terminate their contracts without a cancellation fee and those who have bought the purifiers will receive compensation equal to the rental fees. They can also get a refund.BY YOON SO-YEON [yoon.soyeon@joongang.co.kr]
