Plainfield issues boil order 2 days after E. coli found in water
PLAINFIELD, Ill.(WLS) -- The Village of Plainfield has lifted aboil water orderMonday evening after E. coli bacteria was detected in the water supply last week.Residents can now resume normal water use. However, the village said those who wish to take extra precautionary steps can do the following:- Flush each water line by allowing both the hot and cold water to run for several minutes at each fixture.- Clean faucets and aerators.- Dispose of any ice cubes.- Replace or clean filters on faucet filtration systems or whole house filters per the manufacturer's recommendations.All District 202 students will also return to classrooms Tuesday after someschools in Plainfield switched to remote learning on Mondaydue to the continued water issues.Plainfield issued the boil order on Friday after it was notified by an outside lab that the bacteria had been detected in samples taken on Wednesday, Sept. 9.The village said it took 21 water samples on Friday, Sept. 10, all of which came back with no signs of coliform or E. coli bacteria. Another 40 samples taken on Saturday, Sept. 11, also came back without bacteria.In an update Monday evening, the village said an additional 40 more water samples that were collected Sunday also came back without any signs of bacteria. With two sets of 40 satisfactory samples, the village said it was able to lift the boil order at 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 13.To have your water tested at any time, contact the Will County Health Department.Note: The video in the player above is from a previous report.
