TikToker reveals the 'best way' to clean your strawberries and the results are shocking
A TikToker has gone viral for her method of cleaning strawberries that is proven to get little bugs that are often hidden to the eye out of your fruit before you eat it.
The account named @lexilexibobexi shared with her followers an in-depth method of how she ensures her strawberries are perfect.
She said: "Hello, please allow me to show you the best way to wash and prep your strawberries.
"Get a bowl of room temperature water a lot of salt that splashed on me. Once it's dissolved, you put all the strawberries in for like 10 to 12 minutes and stir them around halfway.
“This should strip them of all the gross stuff.
“I don’t know if y’all remember the TikTok trend like last year of people cleaning their strawberries in the saltwater and the little white bugs would come out that's why I started to do this, and yes, bugs come out. Only sometimes though.
"No bugs today, but look at the water.
"Drain and rinse. I rinsed mine like two or three times and then after that back in the bowl cold water, ice bath baby, like a lot of it. Get it all in there, and I can do this because my hands are clean, and yours should be too."
By soaking the strawberries in salted water, it encourages insects and bugs out of the fruit.
These bugs are not considered to be a health risk when ingested, but most people don’t like the thought of eating the tiny worms inside and so soak them.
However, many followers commented that they liked Lexi's way of cleaning the strawberries but admitted they couldn't really be bothered with the long-winded approach.
They said: “Ugh.. too much work… I’d rather just eat the bugs”.
Another said: “I don’t do this because I’m afraid I’ll see the bugs. I’ll just keep blindly eating them.”
Others joked that the strawberry prep was a little too extreme.
One said: “Why do they need an ice bath are they training”.
Another person commented: “Not washing them helps build immunity”.
