Food prices increase in supermarkets as cost of living balloons
Price comparisons have shown the incredible scale of price rises for regular people across the UK.
Trolley.co.uk, a comparison website, has tracked the cost of nearly 24,500 products sold in supermarkets.
A Grocery Price Index published by the site showed that the average rise across a huge selection of products is 1.6% in a year.

However, many individual items have risen in price quite dramatically.
A jar of Dolmio bolognese sauce, for example, jumped by more than 15% since last February.
Kellogg’s Variety Pack cereal and a jar of Nescafe Original instant coffee are up almost as much.
Some items only went up a few pence, such as Kingsmill soft white medium loaf. But those pence add up, as bread is generally bought frequently.
A few items, Silver Spoon sugar, certain Pringles flavours and Richmond pork sausages, have actually fallen in price over the past year.
The Daily Mirror picked a selection of items that might be in a typical weekly shop. The daily found that groceries cost £4.90 more now than a year ago, up from £54.30 to £59.20.
Several major food firms have recently warned of higher prices.
Unilever, makers of Marmite and Pot Noodles, said company costs had surged by £3billion.

Nestlé, which makes KitKat, said it had already upped its prices.
And Reckitt, whose products include Harpic, Nurofen and Strepsils, recently revealed its costs had jumped by 11% last year.
Danni Hewson, financial analyst at investors AJ Bell, said: “Big brand owners are facing an important test.
“Consumers may not be able to keep stomaching price increases. There is a risk they buy less of the popular, expensive brands.”
Saeed Ibrahim, spokesman for Trolley.co.uk, said two of every three brands had gone up in a year.
He added: “If this trend does continue, the negative effect this could have on families could be enormous by the end of 2022.”
